I started my masters in communication studies at Université de Montréal after completing a bachelor degree in Alakhawayn University in Ifrane- Morocco. In my masters dissertation I study the Uprising of Women in the Arab world, a Facebook campaign created, following the ‘Arab Spring’, by a group of female activists from several Arab countries. I am particularly interested in how the intersection of discourses on arabity and gender shapes practices of citizenship of the women participating in the campaign. I am also a member of the Lab Culture Populaire Connaissance Critique.

My name is Erica Melamed and I am currently an Honours Communications Major with a keen interest in history. I feel the importance of bridging Communication Studies with history, because as our society changes history will change along with it. Working as a Research Assistant under Professor Barbara Crow, the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies, I will be participating in a number of MemorySpace style workshops. The workshops will show the senior participants the ways in which to digitize certain media or artifacts. The education of senior communities on digital media will allow for members of this group to become more involved in our digitized society. In turn, the participation of members of the senior community will mean the continuation of a version of history which would otherwise be left behind.
